CHARACTER INFO
Character: roronoa zoro
Canon: one piece; post wano
Age: 21
Background Information: wiki
Personality:
1) Tell us about who your character is and what someone’s first impression would be upon meeting them.
this is roronoa zoro, unspoken first mate of the strawhat pirates, wing of the future pirate king, stinky man who bathes less than he should.
so, someone's first impression upon meeting zoro would... likely be terrible, honestly. he's known to be a grumpy sort of person, doesn't always get along with people, and can and maybe will say the wrong thing as he's also the sort that doesn't know how to express himself emotionally. zoro's a bluntly honest sort of guy, which can also rub people the wrong way.
however, there are times when that isn't the case and he's downright pleasant(ish) to be around: when there's plenty of booze for him to have, especially after a good fight. he's a simple man with even simpler pleasures. while there are times he can be complex ( it's true! ), he doesn't like for them to be.
many would say that zoro's an idiot, but that's simply not the case though it does often appear that way. the thing about zoro is that he has a very narrow field of vision and things he thinks he should know about. and those things he believes he should know, he knows them well, everything else is just life fodder. he doesn't think he's stupid for not knowing something since he's actively chosen not to know.
and while he may constantly have a gruff exterior, don't let that fool you. he has hidden soft spots for kids and animals. even if he pretends he doesn't.
2) What is a driving force your character has? What goals do they have, what motivates them, etc?
as touched on before, zoro is driven in his motivations because his own personal scale is very narrow. when things began, his greatest goal was to be the greatest swordsman alive and take that title from someone else. and while that still is the end he's searching for, things have slightly shifted along the way and that's all because of luffy. see, luffy's dream is to be king of the pirates, and zoro is determined to make sure he gets there, with zoro by his side.
so, along the way he's working toward those goals in tandem because &dmash; to zoro — one cannot happen without the other. after his first clash with mihawk ( the man who currently holds the world's greatest swordsman title ), zoro swears: i swear that i'm never going to lose again. i swear until the day i fight him and win to never lose again! any problems, pirate king? thus cementing their goals as one. and, so far, he's not lost again and continues to push beyond his previous barriers and become stronger.
he's a determined sort of guy, so he'll stop at nothing to make sure those goals are achieved, no matter the cost. this dude has nearly died like five times at this point, all in pursuit of these dreams.
3) What are their flaws as a character? What is something they've messed up, or have done that they regret?
a lot of his flaws have been previously brought up: he's sour and dour at times, he's grumpy, he's blunt enough that it can seem mean sometimes. another flaw, or something like it, that has become more of a joke than anything at this point is he cannot follow directions and somehow manages to get himself lost regardless of the situation. even when riding on the back of an animal, he still wound up separated and lost. for some reason, he just can't seem to get it together.
as far as regrets go, zoro's not really the type to have any. he lives his life the way he wants, does the things he wants, says the things he wants, thereby not having to live with any regrets. he accepts whatever life throws at him and doesn't look back. he just keeps pushing forward because there's nothing to do about the past, it can't be changed.
the only thing that could edge upon being close to a regret is his best friend dying when they were children because zoro wanted to spend his life becoming great enough that one of them would be the greatest swordsman in the world, since he was determined and knew without question that it would be one of them. but, her death wasn't even remotely his fault or anything, so it just kind of hovers in the regretosphere but not really an active one.
4) Optional: What is something unique and interesting about them, or what is a fun little tidbit that sets them apart from the crowd?
an interesting tidbit is, maybe, that an attempt was made by the criminal network of baroque works to recruit him as he was a very famous bounty hunter. since zoro doesn't like following rules and being told what to do, he definitely put the agent in his place.
in the ground.
Abilities & Inventory:
abilities:
abilities.
— he's stupid powerful
— his sword style is mega powerful shounen style that can like slice buildings in half and all kinds of generally stupid stuff. i am absolutely fine nerfing this bc i'm not rping zoro to win fights, just to generally make his life difficult.
— he uses a thing called haki and there are three types ( idk if anyone's familiar with op, so quickly ): observation: users basically have a precognitive sense; zoro's is good but not the greatest in the series; conqueror's: basically they can exude a powerful aura and knock out weaker people; again, zoro's is decent, but not as strong as others; armament: this is his strongest one and it means he can use his spiritual energy to harden his body parts to block attacks and stuff like that, it can also be imbued into objects, which is what zoro does with his swords.
inventory:
— his three swords
— the clothes on his back
— a little transponder snail

ARMADA SELECTION
corsairs. firstly, because he's a pirate. but mostly because that's where he'd fit in best. he doesn't give a crap about authority, even before he became a pirate and was a pirate hunter, he didn't care anything about the government whatsoever, they were all just money. which, honestly, is likely something he'd be more inclined into returning to since he'd be here without his crew.
